A lovely collection of Berkhamsted Old Girls' Guild minutes books made their way to the archive for cataloguing and safe keeping. The ledgers date from 1894 -1997 and most all of the books contained a varied collection of loose papers, letters and notes. One of the loose papers was a telegram and looking back through the 1962 minutes, you read that the committee had unanimously agreed to send a telegram of good wishes to Sir Winston Churchill, who had suffered a fall, resulting in a fracture to his leg, whilst holidaying in Monte Carlo. The telegram (above) was an overnight reply, by return from Sir Winston. (Lady Clementine Churchill (nee Hozier) OB 1903).
