Lady Clementine Churchill married Winston Churchill, then a young politician, in 1908.

During the First World War, Lady Churchill organised canteens for munitions works in factories in North East London, and was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of her work here. Lady Churchill actively assisted in Churchill's campaigning throughout the 1930s.

In the Second World War, Lady Churchill did a great deal of work to support the Home Front whilst her husband focused on the war effort overseas. For example, Lady Churchill was Chairman of the Red Cross Aid to Russia Fund, as well being involved in the Young Women's Christian Association War Time Appeal and the Maternity Hospital for the Wives of Officers. In 1946, Lady Churchill became Dame Clementine Churchill when was appointed a Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of her role during the war.

After the death of her husband in 1965, Lady Churchill continued to be involved in politics, sitting as a cross-bencher in the House of Lords.
