Computers 83

The ‘new’ Computer laboratory c.1983, located in the Newcroft building.

An article in the Berkhamstedian magazine, tells us that the laboratory had fourteen ‘Apple’ instruments, linked to the Omninet System, which back in the day, had only been installed at Berkhamsted and Nottingham University. The consoles had access to a master printer on a queuing system!

How different today, as the up to date photos show. I don’t doubt that as technology moves on apace, these devices will very soon be looked upon as archaic. The article also mentions the techy gremlins that had beset the system ……… no change there, all remedied but without the specialist I.T. team that we are fortunate to have today.
