This copy of the Lorsch Gospels was donated by a parent. It was reproduced by her father, who was a religious books publisher.
The entire work originated in the Scriptorium of the Court at Aachen, about 810, presumably at the commission of Charlemagne. After centuries of separation, the four parts which comprise the Lorsch Gospels were united in the Coronation Hall of the Holy Roman in Aachen, Germany, on the occasion of the 1965 exhibition of the Council of Europe, “Charlemagne: His Achievements and Influence”.
